Former French PM Nicolas Sarkozy shows off his belly during Ibiza holiday
Nicolas Sarkozy and Carla Bruni have been snapped revelling in the European heatwave as they enjoyed a dip in the sea and relaxed on a yacht off the coast of the Balearic islands this week.
The former president of France, 68, was seen kicking back with the singer and model, 54, whom he married in 2008 in Paris, one year into his presidency.
The pair are currently on holiday in Ibiza, and had shared a meal at the Moli de Sal restaurant on Illetes Beach on the nearby island of Formentera before hopping onto a boat and jetting out to sea.
Sarkozy looked spry for his age, taking delight in jumping off the boat and swimming in the clear blue water before hauling himself back aboard and sharing a warm embrace with Bruni.
But he looked out of shape in comparison to his wife, who at 54 is still seen on the catwalk modelling for world-famous fashion brands.
It comes after the former First Lady of France revealed she works out for two hours a day and practices a strict regimen of elliptical bike, Pilates and barre exercises as part of her ‘unspeakable efforts’ to retain her appearance.

Speaking to French magazine Madame Figaro, the singer and model earlier this month talked about returning to the catwalk for Balmain and posing for one of Yves Saint Laurent’s recent campaigns, confessing she feels ‘too old’ to model and felt strange’ about the fact she felt old enough to be the mother of a younger model she accompanied on set.
The French-Italian beauty admitted she has gone through therapy to address her fear of commitment, and considers her marriage to former French President Nicolas Sarkozy an ‘accomplishment.’
Bruni said she didn’t have a particular relationship with beauty, but that she prefers grace and charm over ‘pure beauty’.
‘I have a silhouette and a style, perhaps, but I make unspeakable efforts to stay thin: two hours of sports per day, some barre, some elliptical bike, a little bit of Pilates.
‘Beauty is also an inconvenience,’ she added, saying she felt she was ‘destabilised’ by returning to modelling in campaigns for YSL and Balmain after a lengthy break.
She revealed it was ‘bizarre’ to realise she is old enough to be the mother of the other models and said she felt too old to model.
‘Actually, I think it’s not of my age anymore,’ she said, adding she was the youngest in her family.

Reflecting on her early years, the model said she felt she was tall and lanky and felt invisible.
She talked about going through a late puberty, which made her appreciate the looks she got at the beach as a 17-year-old.
She admitted she likes to seduce and please people, but without a sexual aim, and said pleasing others was more interesting than beauty, which fades with age.
The singer, who focused on her music and philanthropic activities when she lived at the Elysee Palace from 2008 to 2012 as France’s First Lady, caused a sensation when she walked the runway for Balmain in 2021.
She also starred in YSL’s spring summer photo campaigns, showing off her age-defying physique in revealing outfits.

She said that she still loves fashion and considers the people she knows within the industry to be a ‘second family’.
Speaking of her relationship with Sarkozy, she said it was important for her to get married.
The model admitted she used to struggle to commit, but credited therapy for helping her to cope with these issues and said her marriage to Sarkozy was a great achievement.
Speaking of her daughter Giulia, ten, after she shared a picture of her on Instagram, the model said she hoped to raise her by example.
Carla, who also shares her son Aurelien with the French radio host Aurelien Enthoven added that adults who behave well usually raise children who behave well.
She said her favourite qualities were kindness and generosity and that while she is a self-described mother hen, she does not want to control her children.
Bruni declared that she tries to be a present mother for her children and to support them best she can.
