    The most expensive jewels worn on the Oscars red carpet

    The Oscars red carpet has long been a showcase of extravagant (and expensive) fashion lore for decades — with each celebrity look being the product of an entire team’s painstaking work. And, the fine pieces of jewels worn by stars add a key element of luxury as well as panache to the award ceremony. From Best Actress winner Vivien Leigh wearing French luxury maison Van Cleef & Arpels’ aquamarine pendant for the 12th Academy Awards in 1940 to Lady Gaga flaunting her exquisite Tiffany yellow diamond necklace during its 83rd year in 2019, these expensive pieces of jewellery worn by celebrities have truly taken the Oscars a notch higher in glitz and glamour.

    Like many people, one of my favorite things to do in my free time is to grab a coffee and wander the aisles of Target. The superstore has practically everything you could ever need, from cute home-decor products to everyday essentials to big-ticket items and of course, stylish fashion finds. But as much fun as it is to walk around your local store, there are always thousands of more items available to choose from on Target’s website. Plus, it’s usually easier to find your favorite pieces in a greater variety of size and color options.

    The problem there, of course, is with so many items on the site, it can be hard to know where to start, but that’s where I come in. As a fashion shopping writer, I spend the majority of my day searching

    Lagos designer creates zero-waste fashion brand

    A Lagos-based fashion designer is producing zero-waste garments made out of doilies, duvets, sheets and textile waste as raw materials, using environmentally friendly techniques such as smock, embroidery and crochet.

    Jéssica António, 28, handmakes fashion pieces in her studio in Praia da Luz. Some with fabrics she buys, others with material she receives from people and a second-hand shop in Lagos, which donates clothing that is too large or cannot be sold.

    “Some pieces are 100% zero waste, made using techniques, such as ‘smock’, which is an English technique that I use in many of my pieces”, she says. It is a “very delicate” technique she learned in Denmark, in which a small manual machine with curved needles produces details for parts and accessories.

    5 Big Menswear Trends From New York Fashion Week FW23

    New York Fashion Week’s Fall/Winter 2023 shows have officially concluded, and globe-trotting showgoers have already landed in London for the English city’s turn. With shows and presentations from over 75 designers, spanning mainstays Willy Chavarria, Coach and Eckhaus Latta to newcomers Head of State and AKNVAS, the American leg of the fashion tour had much to showcase for the forthcoming season.

    For FW23, New York designers pushed the limit on what’s expected from menswear. Skirts appeared on the runways of Who Decides War, Thom Browne and LUAR, among others, while visionaries Dion Lee and LaQuan Smith made a case for bold cuts on luxury clubwear. Shoulders shot to new heights in a bevy of looks from Chavarria, and Head of State’s Taofeek Abijako subverted traditional tailoring in men’s formalwear. Heron Preston, meanwhile, embraced high and low street styles in a manner that let his signature workwear prevail once again.
